I am very happy to say you that we are going to celebrate the 4th International Day of Yoga. This 21 June, International Yoga Day (2018)- World Yoga Day will be so inspirational for people all around the world. You might also be thinking about to start your yoga journey on this 4th world yoga day. This international day of yoga is going to be like a festival. All are curious about it. All want to be healthy and happy with natural way. That is the very good thing that we have Yoga to achieve this. Who has the ability to make us able to solve the sufferings and problems of life?

In this post, I am going to share with you everything from what is Yoga(If you are a newcomer) to how and where this International Day of Yoga is going to be celebrated in India.

What is yoga? 



In very simple words Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice. Or in other words, Yoga is the art of living life. The meaning of word Yoga is to Join or union of mind, body, and soul.  Yoga had originated or started in India around 5ooo years ago. Maharishi Patanjali is known as the founder of Yoga. His scriptures are known as Patanjali Yoga Sutra. It consists of Asanas, breathing techniques(the art of breathing) and meditation. This is the shorter way to describe the Yoga in the modern world. But in reality, it is more than this. It has many types - Ashtanga yoga, Bhakti yoga, Dhyan Yoga, Karma yoga, Raj yoga, Lay yoga, Tantra yoga etc. Yoga is a holistic approach to mental and physical health.


Objectives of celebrating the International Yoga Day?



As we are in the modern world where people only think about yourself. People have sole consciousness and approach not the universal. The level of self-consciousness,  health, morality, goodness,  care, respect, help, happiness, awareness to the environment, peace, love and relationship with nature, good practices and habits, brotherhood, harmony, humanity etc seems to be decreasing. There is too much scarcity of peace in the world that we everyone knows.

But the objectives of celebrating the International Yoga Day to enhance all these things, enhance the quality of life, and the most important the peace by bringing the world together. Here I can try to list objectives with you.


  • Let people know about the amazing health benefits of yoga.

  • Connecting people with nature.

  • Increasing the peace by making people adopt meditative aspects of yoga.

  • Make people aware of the holistic approach to yoga.

  • Decreasing the unpeaceful and illegal practices.

  • Make people able to improve quality of life.

  • Make people aware of worse climatic conditions, due to unhygienic practices. And improving the health of our planet.

  • Bring people together to increase brotherhood.

  • Make people more productive and boost growth and development.

  • Living sound by mentally and physically.

  • Strengthen the coordination among nations.

  • Make citizens more knowledgeable, skillful and efficient in their tasks.

  • Make people know how to live healthily and fit naturally.

  • To make yoga part of people's daily life.


There may be more objectives of celebrating the International Day of Yoga. But here these enough to understand and make the mind about I think.

When the celebration of the International Day of Yoga started? And who started it?



We celebrated the first  International Day of Yoga in on June 21st, 2015. You might definitely know this. I mine started the Yoga practice just a few weeks before this day. This idea of International Day Yoga was first introduced by our current Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014. His request was granted by the United State General Assembly in December 2014 in an effort to highlight the benefits of yoga to physical well-being, world peace, and development.  And on June 21st, 2015, the first International Day of Yoga was celebrated worldwide.

Why had the 21st day of June chosen for this?



In one line the answer is that on this day the northern hemisphere has the Longest day of the year. Whereas the southern hemisphere has the longest night. The sun rays directly fall on the northern hemisphere( Tropic of Cancer). This day also has a significant effect all over the world. This is called summer solstice. Our India is located in the northern hemisphere. On this day we receive the highest amount of sun's vital energy. Which is very significant for us. So our Prime Miniter has also known this and suggested to celebrate International Yoga Day on 21st June. That's why we are celebrating it since 2015 globally.

What milestones have been achieved?



2015



The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 June 2015 all around the world. In India, the ministery of AYUSH  had made all the necessary arrangements for Yoga practice. Including our Prime Minister and including over 35,985 people and a large number of dignitaries from 84 nations practiced 21 asanas in 35 minutes together at Rajpath in New Delhi. Millions of people observed this Day on Yoga. The NCC cadets entered in Limca Book World Record for largest Yoga performance on several venues simultaneously with a single uniformed Young organization.

The event at Rajpath made 2 Guinness World Records that were awarded to ministery of AYUSH and received by the AYUSH minister Shripad Yesso Naik. In San Francisco co 5000, people had gathered together for yoga practice in Marina Green Park.

2016



The ministry organized an event titled "The National Event of Mass Yoga Demonstration" at Chandigarh, which had  attended by our Prime Minister

India's Permanent Mission to the UN organized celebrations at the United Nations on 20 and 21 June 2016. A special event titled "Conversation with Yoga Masters – Yoga for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals" was the stronghold.

2017



Pm Modi participated in the event and practiced yoga along with 51,000 participants in Lucknow. Many business leaders in India were also present at the event. In NewYork thousands of participants gathered to practice yoga on Times Square. Japan created a Parliamentary League for the promotion of yoga in April 2017.  The largest gathering in the city Wuxi of China was 10,000. The event took place in Athens on June 25 as part of the Greek Open Yoga Day and in Kyiv, the event happened on June 18 and gathered a few hundred participants. In Ireland, participants met in the round room of the City hall in Dublin.





What will be the theme of this world yoga day?



According to UN, last year Yoga Day’s theme is “Yoga for Health“. Which was focused on the holistic approach of yoga, for both mental and physical health. The theme for this year is not decided yet.

How and where 21 June, International Yoga Day (2018)- World Yoga Day How and where it will be celebrated in India as well as in other countries.



In India, The 4th International Yoga event will be organized at Dehradun in Uttrakhand as decided by the ministery of AYUSH. Mass yoga demonstration will be organized. This event will be attained by Prime Minister Modi. Three places - Forest Research Institute(FRI), Ghorkha Training Centre and Maharana Pratap Stadium have identified for the mass Yoga demonstration.

Ministry of AYUSH is also planning to give Yoga awards to national and international participants

Yoga enthusiasts from across the world are practicing yoga. Yoga practitioners in China are also taking classes to make the 4th International Day a successful event.

This year craze for yoga is much more and we can see a large participation of many other countries around the world as well. All are getting ready for the 21st Yoga celebration. No one wants to miss it. Indian Yoga trainers may be busy in other countries.
